Top Tips for January & February

Spring can seem a distant prospect during the first two months of the New Year and cheerful, scented, spring flowers can be a lovely antidote to the dark winter days, particularly when you know that it will be a while before you see real colour in your own garden.

Little pots of dwarf daffodils and perfumed hyacinths are a very affordable way to bring a little bit of spring into your home. With modest care - a warm up on the kitchen table, and a regular drink, these pots flourish, bright green leaves soon emerging along with promising flower buds.

You can of course embrace the winter season and bring in frosted seed heads, carefully pruned holly, eucalyptus and other evergreen plants, which work beautifully alongside freshly cut scented flowers. The bright green, red and orange stems of dogwood can look great with richly coloured roses and when brought into the warmth the leaves of the dogwood will often begin to appear from beneath the bark.
